Born of Conquerors
Judith Wright is one of Australia’s best know poets. She also published numerous essays, children’s books and documentary histories. After her work ended on the Aboriginal Treaty Committee in 1995, she promised to do what she could to keep the issue of justice for Aboriginal people alive. Born of the Conquerors was a way to help fulfil her promise as well as send a message about our need to care for the land. It is a collection of 21 essays previously published in a wide variety of journals and other publications. The topics range from the autobiographical through political comment to literary criticism. However, Judith Wright’s strong concerns for the survival of Aboriginal culture and the environment runs through them all.
